Ask my students why we celebrate Dr Seuss and they’ll tell you because he died. Ask them, “What did he do?” And again they’ll tell you he died. Ask them what else he did and you may get, “Went to heaven.” or “Was a baby.” Sometimes I’m not sure what I’m teaching.
But if you stick it out and provide some prompts they’ll tell you he “made” some books and with further prodding you may learn that an author writes books and an illustrator “writes” the pictures and that Dr Seuss did both.
We celebrated his birthday yesterday.
